I live very close to this community, and I end up showing a lot of houses here. When I explain to people what the draw is to Copperfield, or when I talk about the top reason to buy there, I say it's because you can get a high square footage for a lower price than you can in surrounding areas. What’s more, you can expect to have a newer home than elsewhere for that price. Copperfield also has a variety of different types of homes to suit every need, from townhouses to single family homes of every size, all the way up to estate living.
Represented by the Marquis De Lorne Community Association (MDLCA), there are always plenty of exciting things happening in Copperfield. This year, for example, the MDLCA hosted 3 separate Christmas parties for children, and all of them were free to attend for members! There are also opportunities to attend different fitness classes such as yoga, bootcamp and zumba with members of your community, and the mom and tot drop-in has become a community meet-and-greet for mommies from one corner of Copperfield to another.
I am usually in Copperfield for two reasons, other than showing or selling real estate. The first is to visit Huckleberry Kids, which I feel is the best secondhand store for children’s clothes on the south side of Calgary. They tend to carry slightly higher-end clothes that still have good life in them than other consignment stores, and I can clothe all my kids in there for a very reasonable price. I really like Huckleberry Kids! The other reason is to take my daughter to ballet lessons at Summit Dance Studio. This new dance and music school is certainly worth the amount we pay in monthly fees. The instructors are professional and clearly enjoy working with children.
With a brand new school just being built right in Copperfield, SE Calgary dwellers will finally see some relief in having to ship their kids off to the moon every day for school. Promising to be one of the finest institutions in the south, the Calgary Catholic School District is opening an elementary and junior high school right in the heart of Copperfield that is expected to open in September of 2012. For many residents who have been patiently waiting for a new school in the SE, this is a real treat!
The SE Calgary LRT line is something that south-siders have long anticipated. Having been quoted a finish date as far in the future as 2020, many south-siders are forming coalitions to lobby government to prioritize this infrastructure upgrade. Although the south side was recently given a BRT to downtown, having that south end LRT will be great for commuters, and ease traffic across the south side.
