Our Visit to Papa John's in Seton

Posted by Rachel R. Vanderveen on Monday, March 10th, 2014 at 11:26am.

As some of you may know, we are a proud homeschooling family! Lately we’ve been talking about the value of owning your own business and we got to talking about private enterprises vs. franchisees. Then it just so happened that I crossed paths with one of the managers of the brand new Papa John’s in Seton (just outside Auburn Bay and by the new hospital), and since we order from Papa John’s more than I care to admit (what? I’m a working homeschool mom!), I thought it would be a perfect place for the kids to see how a small business runs and have an opportunity to ask the owner about why he chose a franchise vs. his own private business. I couldn’t believe how receptive the owner was to our request to come behind the counter with a gaggle of children and learn all about pizza!

We arrived at 9:15 in the morning and were greeted by the owner, general manager, and store manager! We felt pretty special that the top team came to greet our little homeschooling bunch. They showed us how the ordering system worked, how the pizzas are made, and how the cooking system works. They even let us all make our own pizza! What surprised us most were the intricate systems they had in place to make sure all the ingredients stay fresh. Everything has stickers on it so you can see when it expires. If it’s past the date, it gets trashed. We were also surprised by the efforts the owner was making to keep ingredients local. Often with a franchise, those types of options don’t exist.

The kids asked a lot of questions about running a business and the owner was very frank about life in the pizza industry. We feel pretty grateful to have been allowed to go behind the scenes at Papa John’s, and I just wanted to share our experience and adorable pictures with all of my blog readers. If you’re looking for an amazing pizza in Auburn Bay or Cranston for a great price, call Papa John’s we’ve been customers for years, and seeing how the business runs behind the scenes only solidifies our loyalty to the brand!
