Last night Clint and I did a Calgary new home buyers seminar. It was actually super-fun. Clint made a new presentation using a tool that is like Powerpoint, but way better. I don’t usually get nervous in front of people, but I found myself sweating last night. I don’t know why. There were probably about 15 people there, and I had to just keep telling myself, “What is the worst that can happen?” Do you ever find that when you get anxious, going straight to what the worst case scenario is, usually calms you down? Because 9 times out of 10 it’s not as bad as what you think.
So the worst case scenario that I could imagine would be if I got up there, started talking, and then just passed out and hit the deck. That would probably be the worst, and really when you think about it, that’s not really that bad. (Although I should note that when it was all over and done, Clint thought up some scenarios that could be much, much worse than that, which thankfully I didn’t think of before it was my time to speak).
So I got up there and explained step-by-step how a person goes about buying a house in Calgary if they have never been through the process before. Overall, I think it went well. As soon as I started talking, I realized I didn’t even need my notes. I explain this stuff all the time with new Calgary real estate shoppers; it’s just in this situation I had 15 people sitting in front of me all at once, rather than one or two. The nervousness faded away quickly and Clint and I felt good about how it went. We were on a real high until we left and someone wished me good luck with the bun in the oven. Trinity is 3 months out of the “oven” now… gotta hit the gym!
