Over the last little while, somehow gardening has become a little hobby of mine and Clint’s. I last posted about the beginnings of our garden, and what are plans were. We have since erected our little garden and I’m excited to tell people what we did…despite the fact that such a tiny fraction of you actually care about gardening! LOL.
OK, here’s what we did:
We built 3 garden boxes and we filled them with Broccoli, cucumbers, carrots, lettuce, green onions, cooking onions, and bush beans. We also bought 2 Topsy Turvy tomato planters and we planted 2 tomato plants. There is also a smashing-looking strawberry patch in our front yard, which we are hoping will grow over the years.
Our front step has pots of herbs including mint, oregano, dill, basil, chives and parsley. Then Clint bought a little mini irrigation system that waters it all twice a day so that the garden is getting watered even when we’re not here. Which works just fine for us.
We have learned a lot from this adventure. The first is that even with 3 large garden boxes, we won’t be able to produce enough food for our family to even snack on this summer, so we’re probably adding two more boxes. The next thing we’ve learned is that starting seeds inside early can make for better harvests, and the last thing is that you need more space per plant than you think you do.
Clint is still working on the video for the building of the garden boxes. Stayed tuned for it yet to come. We’re getting into this whole homesteading idea. Is there anyone else out there who is beginning to dabble? I just bought this book at Costco. It’s fascinating!
