Count Your Blessings

Thanksgiving BlessingsThis Thanksgiving, Clint and I have a lot to be thankful for. After having quite the scare with our daughter in the hospital, we now know what it means to be grateful for healthy children. It’s a gratitude I hope I won’t soon forget. It’s nuts how easily we forget that life is fragile, and that we are not on our own timeline. Having come so close to death, this Thanksgiving it’s very easy for us to celebrate life in all of the ways it has come to us.

The first is the ongoing life of our daughter, Faith, who made it through a very scary ordeal at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and came out of it without a scratch on her. Our daughter being alive is a pure miracle from above. Aside from being unendingly grateful to God for sparing Faith, we are grateful to her doctors: Dr. Lisa Lemieux, Dr. Eccles, Dr. Aliyah and Dr. Renee, who worked together to save Faith’s life this spring.

The second is the life that has been created in my belly. Although there have been times when I have been less than grateful for the little life inside me (because it made me live my life hung over a toilet for a while), Clint and I could not be more excited to welcome this new little baby in January as the fifth Vanderveen-child in our little homeside Vanderveen Team. We are grateful to God for keeping this little one safe and healthy!

The last bit of life we are grateful for this year is the life we have, as played out on the backdrop of our little home in Auburn Bay. In 2008, we took a risk and bought this dreamhouse that we now call home, and even today as I do laundry in our upstairs laundry room, wipe the crumbs off of our ample counter space, and send the kids to play into our basement when they are annoying me, I can hardly believe it is ours. We certainly didn’t deserve such a house, but God saw fit to put on in our path, and I never want to forget, year after year, how much I love this house and have been blessed to live in it.

The Vanderveen Team wishes you a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving. May you spend your day in the company of good people, with all the blessings this life can afford.
